School Direct courses are based on the skills providers are looking for in a early career teacher (ECT).
We are in an excellent position at Macmillan Academy currently but not all students in the North East get such a fantastic deal - many students are
taught by non-specialists on a regular basis. ITT recruitment of the right people into the profession and keeping them in the profession is the key to
offering the best deal for all students.
Our role is to make the best teachers we have ever had and our extensive involvement in ITT has helped us to recruit the best ECTs to our school and as
a Training School we will have the opportunity to extend this to our alliance schools. We believe that being supporting others makes you
self-reflective and improves your own practice.
We host 30+ ITT placements each year, working in partnership with York Saint John University, Durham University, The University of Sunderland, Northumbria University, Shotton Hall
and Durham SCITT.
We are also a main placement school for the School Direct training route, working in conjunction York St John University.
We have offered places through this training route in English, maths, history, geography, drama, MFL, science and PE and are looking forward to further
developing this school-based ITT route in the coming year.
